Geostatistics and Applications, Overview

This chapter is intended to be both an introduction to, and an overview of, geostatistics as applied to the mining industry. The problems of characterizing variability structures of variables of interest within the deposit are solved with the ``variogram''. Optimal local estimates with corresponding confidence intervals are found by ``kriging''. The choice of various working techniques can be facilitated by simulating them on a geostatistically determined numerical model of the deposit.
